D A N S A este o anagramă a lui S A N D A : de ce ești dată peste cap ?? // Vector proof of the Steiner relation // Vektorbeweis der Steiner-Relation

We give a demonstration using vector calculus. It is necessary, due to the presence of angles, to work in a Euclidean space, with a scalar product  $<.,.>$. The affine structure alone is not sufficient.

In the figure below, we consider the vectors :

$\overrightarrow{AB}=\overrightarrow{b}\;,\;\overrightarrow{AC}=\overrightarrow{c}$
If  $\frac{BM}{MC}=\alpha\;\;,\;\;\frac{BN}{NC}=\beta$  then, as oriented segments we have :
$\overrightarrow{AM}=\frac{\overrightarrow{AB}+\alpha \cdot \overrightarrow{AC}}{1+\alpha}\;\;,\;\;\overrightarrow{AN}=\frac{\overrightarrow{AB}+\beta\cdot \overrightarrow{AC}}{1+\beta} \tag{1}$

We now use the angle equalities :

$\angle {BAM}=\angle {CAN}=x\;\;\;,\;\;\;\angle {BAM}=\angle {CAM}=x+\angle{MAN}:=x+\mu \tag{2}$

We now express some scalar products, thus :

$<\overrightarrow{AB},\overrightarrow{AM}>=AB\cdot AM\cdot \cos x\;\;,\;\;<\overrightarrow{AC},\overrightarrow{AN}>=AC\cdot AM\cdot \cos x \tag{3}$

$<\overrightarrow{AB},\overrightarrow{AN}>=AB\cdot AN\cdot \cos(x+\mu)\;\;,\;\;<\overrightarrow{AC},\overrightarrow{AM}>=AC\cdot AM\cdot \cos(x+\mu) \tag{4}$
